Portfolio III
Mix + Master
For Portfolio III I have re-created one of my favorite songs "Hit The Floor" by LINKIN PARK to practice the new technique I learned about Mixing and Mastering.

Mix
For the Drums I manually recreated the drum sounds as close as I could to the original song by just using Xpand!2 in Pro Tools. The snare was the only drum I actually recorded because it's the only drum I own at the moment. In terms of the mix I have a leveling compressor, HPFs, and LPFs on every track plus various notches. I am also using parallel compression on the Snare and Kick to give them a bit more punch through the mix. Other than that I have some slight reverb to give the drums some space.

I also recorded the Guitars into 3 tracks, 1 direct and the other. 2 recorded the amp with 2 different mics. There is one guitar track that only plays during the intro and the verses and for that I am only using the direct signal.
As you can see I have various synths that actually took most of my time during this project due to searching for sounds and dialing them in to sound right in the mix.
All of the turntable scratch sounds are spliced up loops that I used from Apple Loops and used Vari-Fi on the Audio Suite in Pro Tools to customize each individual sound.

Vocals were done all by me which also took a long time because I am not much of a singer so by using elastic audio I was able to make sure that I am at least hitting the correct notes in the mix. For the Rap Vocal I have a Haas Delay that mutes and unmute with automation to make certain words and sections pop when they need to.
I purposefully have a strong chorus directly effect on the Chorus Vox track simply because I liked the way it sounded versus sending the audio to an Aux track.
Master

For the process of Mastering I imported the bounce of my mix into a mastering template given to my by my professor as well as 2 other mastered mixes that I could compare mine to. This template had some mastering setting already set on Buss 1 and 2 I really liked how it sounded on Buss 2 already so I made some slight adjustments to my liking and bounced it out.
