The Blacksmith Demo Reel

The video above is a sound redesign of a game that includes a cinematic + gameplay. Starting with the title card, I wanted to ensure that the audio from the electricity tickles the listener's ears right away. Following that up with the cinematic, I originally was fairly reserved with my choices while sound designing, but after some review, I decided to make the sounds more prominent and big so that the listener knows that our main character is strong. An example of this is the metallic shards that fall to the ground. Instead of sending this track to an aux input for reverb, I applied reverb directly to the track to achieve the right timbre I had in mind. For the gameplay, I knew that the fight between the Blacksmith and the enemy should sound heavy and dangerous. Every sound in this section is made of at least 2 layers of sounds that I manipulated mainly using EQ. Other techniques I used were dramatic fade-ins and outs, Vari-Fi, pitch correction, and time stretch. After importing all of my sounds into Wwise I did some mixing to make sure the sounds are all coming in at a good volume. From there I recorded my gameplay and edited this demo reel.

Bio

I am a Full Sail University student who is soon to be graduating from the Audio Production Bachelor's program with a 4.0 GPA. I come from the marching band and drumline world with skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, and hard work. I have kept these skills with me no matter what I do so that I can be world-class at anything I do. Ultimately, I am open to various types of audio work, but I particularly enjoy sound design the most because it allows me to be extremely creative.
